MdQI Awards of ExcellenceIn May 1990, the State Highway Administration (SHA), in cooperation with the Maryland Highway Contractors Association (MHCA) and the Maryland Asphalt Association (MAA), initiated the Maryland with Pride Program to foster excellence in the quality of the Maryland Highway Program. Maryland with Pride Awards were presented at the annual MCHA/MAA dinner meeting. In 1993, SHA and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approached Highway Industry leaders in Maryland about transforming the annual dinner meeting into an MdQI annual conference with the Maryland with Pride Awards being presented at the conference banquet. The first annual MdQI conference was held in 1994. Since that time, the Awards of Excellence have been presented at the annual conference banquet. In 2008, the committee changed the annual awards process to recognize projects completed within a fiscal year instead of a calendar year. Awards Application Process: The MDQI Steering Committee has made some revisions to the annual Awards of Excellence Program in 2011. In the past, there were many engineering and construction award categories. This year, there will be fewer categories and more input from the modal agencies on which projects are selected. To be eligible for an award, the project must have a date of substantial completion or acceptance for maintenance between October 1 and September 30 of the next year. For the planning category, the project must have received a record of decision or the equivalent between the dates listed above. The Sponsoring Agency will review the project nomination forms and, if accepted, forward the nomination to the MdQI Awards Committee. The Committee announces a list of finalists prior to the annual MdQI Conference. The on-line application form for all categories (except Partnering) is available on this link: http://www.mdae.org/mdqi2012/mdqi.html.
