ENVIRONMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND EQUITY (3E)

MDQI has a new subcommittee! We are excited to welcome the 3E Subcommittee to the MDQI family. The 3 E’s refer to the environment, engagement, and equity practices in all of the projects we deliver.

Mission 

To encourage and promote the inclusion of best environmental, engagement, and equity practices in transportation planning, design, and construction to achieve innovative outcomes that protect environmental resources and incorporate diverse communities and stakeholders.

Objectives:

• Share new or updated federal and state policy, guidance, tools and best practices to incorporate equity, engagement and environmental practices in transportation planning, design and construction to the Maryland transportation industry through the annual conference and MDQI communications. 

• Encourage promising practices for meaningful public involvement in transportation decision-making by sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices with the Maryland transportation industry.

• Encourage the development and use of innovative climate resiliency and sustainability practices in transportation planning, design, and construction. 

• Improve overall transportation decision-making process in Maryland by  promoting the implementation of equity, engagement, and environmental practices. 

2024 Goals:

• Hold two 3E sessions at the 2024 MDQI Annual Conference. 

• Explore the potential for AICP Certification Maintenance credits for MDQI session attendance. 

• Explore the expansion of MDQI award criteria to include consideration of equity and engagement as appropriate. 

• Explore the potential for a few 3E award focused on spotlighting a project, process or best practice in the areas of equity, engagement and/or environment.
